Houses

Since coming to a Honduras on the 11th, I have been in several communities and have witnessed some of the worst living conditions that I have ever seen. One story stands out -
In Santa Ana, there is an old man living on a mountain top. His house is literally made of sticks and his floor is dirt. On Sunday afternoon, I slammed my truck into low 4 and headed up his mountain. I met him listening to his transister (pre-digital age) radio - (Sunday was Honduras football). It was close to becoming dark and the house doesn't have electricity. A friend from Tupelo was with me and I told him to do a "food patrol" while I talked to the old guy. We didn't see any evidence of food in the house but, the old man with a thoothless grin pulled out a small bag and inside was 2 small cakes that he told us he had been given at church that morning. He wanted to give the cakes to us - his only food and he offered them as a gift to people that he didn't even know.
I guess that this is what Jesus was talking about when he said "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat" or when he told the apostles about the old woman that gave away her last two copper coins.
We are planning to build this house soon!
